... Flash Flood Watch in effect from this evening through Thursday
afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of northwest Iowa... southwest
Minnesota... northeast Nebraska and southeast South Dakota...
including the following areas... in northwest Iowa... Buena
Vista... Cherokee... Clay... Dickinson... Ida... Lyon... Obrien...
Osceola... Plymouth... Sioux and Woodbury. In southwest
Minnesota... Cottonwood... Jackson... Murray and Nobles. In
northeast Nebraska... Dakota and Dixon. In southeast South
Dakota... Union.

* From this evening through Thursday afternoon

* rainfall totals are expected to average 2 to 3 inches tonight
through midday Thursday in the watch area. Locally heavier
amounts are possible.

* Flooding is possible in low lying and poor drainage areas. In
addition... heavy rainfall in short periods of time frequently
cause urban flooding and can wash out unpaved rural roads. Some
of these areas in the watch area... especially along the Highway
60 corridor... received heavy rain last Saturday night creating
saturated ground. Any ground that is saturated will add to
flooding potential.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
