Good morning. It will be a weekend with scattered showers as a trough interacts with the Tropical Wave. (Invest 92L)

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
417 AM AST FRI JUN 7 2013

.SYNOPSIS...UPPER LEVEL TROF ACROSS THE AREA WILL EVOLVE INTO A
TUTT BY SAT AS IT RETROGRESSES TOWARD HISPANIOLA. TROPICAL WAVE
ALONG 52W WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA LATE SUN.

&&

.DISCUSSION...LOCAL AREA REMAINS IN MID LEVEL SUBSIDENCE
ASSOCIATED WITH UPPER LEVEL CONVERGENT FLOW ON NORTH SIDE OF UPPER
LEVEL TROF AXIS THAT EXTENDS NE OF THE LEEWARDS THROUGH THE
ANEGADA PASSAGE INTO THE ERN CARIBBEAN AS SEEN ON HI-RES WATER
VAPOR IMAGERY FROM MODIS TERRA AVAILABLE FROM THE NRL MRY NEXSAT
WEBSITE. THIS IN COMBINATION WITH WET SOILS AND CLEAR SKIES IS
RESULTING IN AREAS OF FOG ACROSS ERN INTERIOR AS SEEN ON HI-RES
MODIS LOW CLOUD/FOG PRODUCT AND GOES 11-3.9 MICRON IMAGERY. AS
LOCAL AREA REMAINS IN MID LEVEL SUBSIDENCE AND WEAKENING SAL AM
EXPECTING VERY LITTLE IF ANY CONVECTION THIS AFTERNOON.

UPPER LEVEL TROF AXIS THEN EVOLVES INTO A TUTT BY SAT AS IT
RELOCATES TO THE NORTH HISPANIOLA. AT THE SAME TIME...AREA OF
SOMEWHAT HIGHER TPW AIR EAST OF 60W AS SEEN ON BLENDED TPW
PRODUCT WILL INCH CLOSER TO OUR AREA SAT AND INTERACT FAVORABLY
WITH TUTT TO YIELD SCT-NMRS STRONG POSSIBLY SEVERE CONVECTION SAT
AFTERNOON. GFS 200 MB DIVERGENCE FIELDS SHOW VERY STRONG UPPER
LEVEL DIVERGENCE ASSOCIATED WITH TUTT OVR PR.

LARGE SCALE SUBSIDENCE MOVES IN OVER THE AREA SUN AHEAD OF WAVE
AXIS NOW LOCATED ALONG 52W. LOWERED POPS TO ISOLD NW SUN GIVEN
DEGREE OF SUBSIDENCE. TROPICAL WAVE AXIS THEN MOVES ACROSS THE
AREA LATE SUN WITH DEEP MOIST TROPICAL AIR ENVELOPING THE AREA
MON AND TUE. AS MOIST TROPICAL AIR INTERACTS WITH DEEP TUTT NORTH
OF HISPANIOLA EXPECT NMRS CONVECTION TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA
WITH POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLASH FLOODING DUE TO
ABNORMALLY HIGH TPW AIR AND LARGE SCALE UPPER LEVEL DIVERGENCE ON
EAST SIDE OF TUTT.

SIG IMPROVEMENT EXPECTED WED-THU AS TUTT FILLS AND MID LEVEL RIDGE
BUILDS IN FROM THE EAST. ANOTHER TROPICAL WAVE IS FCST FOR NEXT
FRI FOLLOWED BY WHAT LOOKS LIKE A TRADE WIND SURGE AND ANOTHER SIG
EPISODE OF SAL.

&&

.AVIATION...-SHRA WERE OBSERVED ACROSS TNCM AND TKPK AND ARE EXPECTED
TO LAST UNTIL 07/10Z. VFR CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO PREVAIL
ACROSS MOST OF THE TAF SITES FOR THE NEXT 24 HRS EXCEPT...AFT
07/17Z BRIEF MVFR CONDS EXPECTED AS ISOLD SHRA/TSRA WILL DEVELOP
OVER WRN INTERIOR PR AND SOME MAY SPREAD OVER TJMZ. MTN
OBSCURATIONS AFT 07/16Z...MAINLY CENTRAL AND WESTERN PUERTO RICO.
MOSTLY EASTERLY WINDS WILL CONTINUE AT AROUND 10 TO 15 KTS FROM
THE SURFACE TO AROUND 2 KFT.

&&

.MARINE...A SURGE IN WINDS EXPECTED SAT NIGHT ACROSS OFFSHORE ATLC
WATERS AHEAD OF TROPICAL WAVE. ISOLD-SCT THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE THE
MAIN HAZARD.

Tropical Weather Discussion

CARIBBEAN SEA...

THE FAR NW CORNER OF THE CARIBBEAN IS EXPERIENCING IMPACTS FROM
TROPICAL STORM ANDREA. A CLUSTER OF SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS IS
FROM 19N-21N BETWEEN 85W-87W. A FEW ISOLATED
SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO ALONG A LINE FROM 17N83W TO
12N81W...AS WELL AS NORTH OF PANAMA FROM 9N-11N BETWEEN 81W-83W.
THE REMAINDER OF THE CARIBBEAN IS UNDER MOSTLY CLEAR
SKIES...WHICH IS THE RESULT OF MODERATE DRY AIR ALOFT BETWEEN AN
UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN...AND AN UPPER
LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN. VISIBLE SATELLITE
IMAGERY ALONG WITH SURFACE OBSERVATIONS ALSO INDICATE A LARGE
AREA OF DUST OVER THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE BASIN.
TRADEWIND FLOW OF 20 KT DOMINATES THE FLOW AT THE SURFACE.
LITTLE CHANGE IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

HISPANIOLA...

NO SHOWERS ARE ACROSS HISPANIOLA AT THIS TIME. SEVERAL STATIONS
OVER THE ISLAND ARE REPORTING DUST...WHICH WILL LIKELY LIMIT
AFTERNOON CONVECTION. SOME MAY STILL DEVELOP...BUT WILL BE LESS
THAN NORMAL. LITTLE CHANGE IN THE SYNOPTIC PATTERN IS EXPECTED
OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS WITH TYPICAL AFTERNOON CONVECTION
LIKELY.

Good morning. Good weather will prevail until Sunday in PR.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
430 AM AST THU JUN 6 2013

.SYNOPSIS...SAHARAN AIR LAYER WILL PERSIST THROUGH SAT. MID-UPPER
LEVEL TROUGH EAST OF THE ISLANDS TO EVOLVE INTO A DEEP TUTT.
TROPICAL WAVE TO MOVE ACROSS THE AREA LATE SUN.

&&

.DISCUSSION...COMBINATION OF SAHARAN AIR LAYER AND UPPER LEVEL
CONVERGENCE FLOW ON BACKSIDE OF UPPER LEVEL TROF WILL MAINTAIN
STRONG SUBSIDENCE AND DRYING THROUGH SUN. AQUA MODIS AOD PRODUCT
FROM YESTERDAY AFTERNOON SHOWS THAT THE THICKEST DUST HAZE WAS
LOCATED SOUTH OF HISPANIOLA WITH CLEARER AIR EAST OF THE ISLAND
CHAIN. WHILE SOME HAZE WILL STILL LINGER TODAY EXPECT SKIES TO
BECOME LESS HAZY AND CLEARER OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

TROPICAL WAVE ALONG 44W IS STRUGGLING WITH LOW-MID LEVEL DRY AIR
PER LOW CLOUDS AND CONVECTIVE OUTFLOWS SEEN EMANATING FROM
ASSOCIATED WEAK AREA OF LOW PRES. MODELS SHOW BULK OF MOISTURE
WILL PASS WELL NORTH OF THE AREA SUN WITH CURRENT AIR MASS NOT
MODIFYING COMPLETELY UNTIL MON. BY THEN...UPPER TROF IS EXPECTED
TO EVOLVE INTO A VERY DEEP TUTT LOW AND BE LOCATED NORTH OF
HISPANIOLA. EXPECT UPPER LEVEL DIVERGENCE ON EAST SIDE OF TUTT AND
MOIST TROPICAL AIR MASS TO INTERACT FAVORABLY AND GREATLY ENHANCE
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MON AND TUE. TUTT WILL BEGIN TO WEAKEN
MID NEXT WEEK WHEN ANOTHER TROPICAL WAVE IS FCST TO REACH THE AREA
THU ACCORDING TO THE 00Z ECMWF. OVERALL...IT APPEARS WILL SEE
ENHANCE RISK OF STRONG TO SEVERE CONVECTION NEXT WEEK DUE TO
FAVORABLE POSITION OF TUTT. THE RISK OF HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLASH
FLOODING WILL BE REDUCED DUE TO STRONG VERTICAL SHEAR.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS ALL SITES FOR THE NEXT 24
HOURS. VCSH POSSIBLE FOR TJMZ AFTER AROUND 06/17Z. HAZY CONDITIONS
EXPECTED TO DECREASE THROUGH THE DAY AS SAHARAN DUST MOVES OUT OF
THE AREA. WINDS BLO FL100 WILL BE FM E AT 10-15 KT.

&&

.MARINE...SEAS 4-6 FT AND WINDS UP TO 20 KT. SOME HAZE BUT SKIES
EXPECTED TO BECOME CLEARER WITH TIME.

NEXT FEATURE OF INTEREST IS A TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED ALONG 41.5W.
THIS WAVE IS ALSO ACCOMPANIED BY A WEAK SFC LOW PRES AND HAS
PLENTY OF CONVECTION AT THE H7 WAVE TROUGH AND ALSO ACCOMPANIED

Good morning. Tropical wave moving thru PR today and after it passes a hazy, hot and dry period will dominate for the next few days.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
539 AM AST TUE JUN 4 2013

.SYNOPSIS...TROPICAL WAVE OVER THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN WILL CONTINUE
TO BRING AN INCREASE IN MOISTURE TO THE AREA TODAY. SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TODAY. RELATIVELY DRIER AIR
IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE AREA ON WEDNESDAY ON THROUGH THE REST
OF THE WEEK WHILE A THICKER CONCENTRATION OF SAHARAN DUST IS
EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE AREA ON WEDNESDAY.

&&

.DISCUSSION...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVED INTO THE LOCAL AREA
TONIGHT AS A TROPICAL WAVE APPROACHED THE LOCAL AREA. SOME OF THE
THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCED WINDS CLOSE TO 30 KNOTS AND LIGHTNING WAS
VERY FREQUENT. SOUNDERS IN SAINT CROIX AND SAN JUAN...AS WELL AS
SATELLITE DERIVED TPW INDICATED THAT THE PRECIPITABLE WATER IS NOW
OVER 2 INCHES AND GFS MODEL SUGGESTS THAT IT WILL CONTINUE TO
SLIGHTLY INCREASE UPWARDS OF 2.1 INCHES. UNSETTLED CONDITIONS ARE
FORECAST AS THIS TROPICAL WAVE MAKES ITS WAY THROUGH THE LOCAL
AREA TODAY...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BE PASSING
THROUGH THE DAY. IN ADDITION...THE COMBINATION OF THIS INCREASE IN
MOISTURE AND THE LOCAL EFFECTS WILL CAUSE THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP
ACROSS THE INTERIOR AND WESTERN SECTIONS OF PUERTO RICO THIS
AFTERNOON.

FOR TOMORROW...SINCE DRIER AIR IS EXPECTED TO MOVE IN...SHOWER AND
THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE AS WIDESPREAD AS
TODAY. HAVING SAID THAT...WRF MODEL PUTS LOTS OF PRECIPITATION OVER
PUERTO RICO...HIGH RESOLUTION NAM IS NOT AS AGGRESSIVE WITH THE
PRECIPITATION....MAYBE SINCE THERE IS A THICKER CONCENTRATION OF
SAHARAN DUST EXPECTED FOR TOMORROW...WHICH NORMALLY LIMITS
CONVECTION. THE REST OF THE WEEK LOOKS SOMEWHAT BETTER AS THE
DRIER AIR MOVES IN...LIMITING CONVECTION MAINLY TO THE INTERIOR
AND WESTERN SECTIONS OF PUERTO RICO.

&&

.AVIATION...PERIODS OF MVFR CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE TODAY AS
SHRA/TSRA MOVE ACROSS THE LOCAL AREA WITH THE TROPICAL WAVE.
OTHERWISE...VFR CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED. WINDS WILL BE MAINLY FROM
THE EAST SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS AND GUSTY...VARIABLE NEAR THE
SHRA/TSRA. WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED TO IMPROVE AFTER 05/00Z.

&&

.MARINE...OVERALL CONDITIONS REMAIN SIMILAR TO THE LAST FEW
DAYS. SMALL CRAFT SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION AS SEAS OF UP TO 6 FEET
AND WINDS OF UP TO 20 KNOTS ARE EXPECTED. HOWEVER...SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE WATERS EXPECTED TODAY...CAUSING LOCALLY
HIGHER WAVES AND GUSTY WINDS.

Tropical Weather Discussion

CARIBBEAN SEA...

ABUNDANT DEEP LAYER MOISTURE IS THROUGHOUT THE NORTHWESTERN
CARIBBEAN EVIDENT IN TOTAL PRECIPITABLE WATER IMAGERY. SOUTHEAST
FLOW CONTINUES TO DRAW TROPICAL MOISTURE INTO THIS AREA AND INTO
THE SE GULF. CURRENTLY...A LARGE BURST OF STRONG
SHOWERS/SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS IS FROM 18N-22N BETWEEN 84W-88W.
SCATTERED SHOWERS/ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO FROM 20N-23N
BETWEEN 80W-84W ACROSS WESTERN CUBA...AND FROM 12N-18N BETWEEN
82W-84W. THE REMAINDER OF THE CARIBBEAN IS FAIRLY DRY IN
COMPARISON WITH ONLY A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS EMBEDDED WITHIN
TRADEWIND FLOW OF 20-25 KT. HOWEVER...A TROPICAL WAVE IS
BEGINNING TO IMPACT THE FAR EASTERN CARIBBEAN INCLUDING THE
LESSER ANTILLES. THE WAVE IS ALONG 61W AND SUPPORTS SCATTERED
SHOWERS/ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS UP TO 120 NM EAST OF THE AXIS.
ALOFT...A BROAD UPPER LEVEL RIDGE COVERS THE BASIN CENTERED OVER
THE NW CORNER. THE BASE OF AN UPPER TROUGH EXTENDS TO THE NE
CARIBBEAN...WHICH IS PROVIDING DIFFLUENT FLOW ALOFT NEAR THE
TROPICAL WAVE. THE NW CARIBBEAN WILL REMAIN UNDER VERY MOIST
CONDITIONS FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. THE TROPICAL WAVE IN THE
EASTERN CARIBBEAN WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE WESTWARD BRINGING
MOISTURE WITH IT.

HISPANIOLA...

HISPANIOLA IS FAIRLY DRY FOR THE TIME BEING. ONLY A FEW POSSIBLE
ISOLATED SHOWERS ARE OVER THE INTERIOR OF THE ISLAND. AFTERNOON
ACTIVITY WILL LIKELY INCREASE AS THE DAY CONTINUES. LOOKING
AHEAD...A TROPICAL WAVE IS MOVING THROUGH THE LESSER ANTILLES
MOVING AT AROUND 15 KT. MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THE WAVE WILL
LIKELY REACH THE ISLAND WITHIN THE NEXT 24-48 HOURS AND WILL
INCREASE THE CHANGE OF HEAVIER RAINFALL.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
324 PM AST MON JUN 3 2013

.SYNOPSIS...AT UPPER LEVELS...A TROUGH AT 64.6 WEST WILL BRUSH BY
THE LOCAL AREA TO THE NORTH ON TUESDAY. HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE
WESTERN CARIBBEAN WILL SLOWLY BUILD NORTHEAST MAINTAINING A WEAK
NORTHEASTERLY JET OVER THE LOCAL AREA THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

AT MID LEVELS...HIGH PRESSURE EXTENDS FROM 30 NORTH 49 WEST IN THE
WEST CENTRAL ATLANTIC INTO THE NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN UNTIL A WEAK LOW
DROPS DOWN INTO THE WESTERN TROPICAL ATLANTIC ON TUESDAY FORCING
THE HIGH OVER THE SOUTHERN BAHAMAS AND INTO THE CENTRAL ATLANTIC
BY FRIDAY. THIS WEAK LOW WILL EDGE TOWARD THE LOCAL AREA ON SUNDAY
AND WEAKEN ON TUESDAY.

AT LOWER LEVELS...A WEAK WAVE WILL MOVE INTO THE EASTERN
CARIBBEAN TONIGHT AND ACROSS THE LOCAL AREA ON TUESDAY. SAHARAN
DUST EXTENDS FROM AFRICA...AROUND A WAVE CURRENTLY NEAR 32 WEST...
THROUGH THE CLOSEST WAVE NEAR 61 WEST AND INTO THE CARIBBEAN. THIS
DUST WILL LIKELY REMAIN OVER THE LOCAL AREA FOR MANY DAYS...WHILE
THE WAVE NEAR 32 WEST MOVES WEST NORTHWEST AND NORTH OF THE LOCAL
AREA. A WEAK TROUGH WILL ALSO MOVE THROUGH ON MONDAY NIGHT IN THE
FOLLOWING WEEK.

&&

.DISCUSSION...CONVECTION WAS VERY LIMITED OVER PUERTO RICO SO FAR
THIS AFTERNOON WITH THE HEAVIEST SHOWERS IN MOCA AND ADJOINING
MUNICIPALITIES IN ITS NORTHERN HEMICIRCLE. AT 3 PM A FEW SHOWERS
WERE ALSO NOTED IN CATANO. THE TROPICAL WAVE NEAR 61 WEST IS
CURRENTLY MOVING THROUGH THE WINDWARD ISLANDS WITH LITTLE IN THE
WAY OF SHOWER ACTIVITY AHEAD...AND LIMITED CONVECTION IMMEDIATELY
BEHIND IT. SHOWERS ARE LIKELY WITH A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS LATE
MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY AS THE SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH FROM THE
SOUTHEAST. ALTHOUGH THERE IS MODEST MOISTURE BEHIND THE WAVE
CURRENT SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS LITTLE IN THE WAY OF SHOWER
ACTIVITY AND THIS IS LIKELY DUE TO THE SAHARAN AIR LAYER DIRECTLY
ABOVE THE MARINE LAYER. SOME THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY SHOULD BE
EXPECTED IN WESTERN PUERTO RICO WITHIN THIS AIR MASS. ON
FRIDAY...FOR NOW...THE MODELS ARE INDICATING VERY DRY AIR OVER THE
AREA AND WOULD EXPECT THAT THIS WILL ALL BUT KILL ALL CONVECTION
OVER THE AREA. MOISTURE RETURNS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AS A WEAK
TROPICAL WAVE MOVES THROUGH. MORE OF AN EXTENSION OF TROUGHINESS
FROM THE NORTH AND NORTHEAST THAN A TRUE WAVE. THIS WILL BE
FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER PERIOD OF LESS CONVECTION UNTIL THE NEXT WAVE
MOVES THROUGH TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY.

BECAUSE OF THE DRY AIR AHEAD OF THE WAVE TO MOVE IN TONIGHT AND
TUESDAY...THERE MAY BE SOME SQUALLY CHARACTER TO THE THUNDERSTORMS
THAT ACCOMPANY THE WAVE. GUSTS TO 40 MPH ARE POSSIBLE IN VERY
LOCAL AREAS WHEN OUT FLOW FROM THE THUNDERSTORMS PASSES THROUGH.
OTHERWISE ONLY LOCALLY VERY HEAVY RAIN IS EXPECTED.

&&

.AVIATION...
SHRA/ISOLD TSRA TO BE OVER PR MTNS AND NW PR THRU 03/21Z WITH SOME

MOISTURE FM EASTERLY WV CURRENTLY IMPACTING TNCM/TKPK WITH

MVFR/ISOLD IFR IS POSSIBLE IN ANY OF THESE BUT THERE IS A BREAK IN
SHRAS FOLLOWING THE FIRST WAVE SOON ARRIVING INTO USVI. SHRA/TSRA
WILL SPREAD INTO PR/USVI MAINLY LATE TONIGHT/EARLY TUE. WINDS BLO FL100
ESE-SE 15-25 KT.

&&

.MARINE...FLOW IS TURNING A LITTLE MORE SOUTHEAST AND WILL REMAIN

Good morning. Tropical Wave will move thru the Eastern Caribbean today thru Tuesday bringing scattered showers but after wave passes a period of hazy, very warm and mainly dry conditions will prevail thru next weekend.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
430 AM AST MON JUN 3 2013

WAVE ALONG 58 WEST WILL MOVE ACROSS THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN MONDAY
NIGHT/TUESDAY MORNING. SAHARAN AIR LAYER WILL BRING HAZY CONDITIONS
TO THE LOCAL ISLANDS BY MID WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...A GENERALLY FAIR WEATHER PATTERN WILL CONTINUE TO
PREVAIL AT LEAST THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...AS SUBSIDENCE ASSOCIATED
WITH UPPER LEVEL TROUGH ACROSS THE WESTERN ATLANTIC INTO THE
NORTHEASTERN CARIBBEAN AND APPROACHING TROPICAL WAVE PREVAILS
ACROSS THE AREA. HOWEVER...FOR THE AFTERNOON HOURS...A FEW
SHOWERS WITH THUNDERSTORMS CANT BE RULED OUT ACROSS WEST AND
NORTHWEST PUERTO RICO AS WELL AS PORTIONS OF THE SAN JUAN METRO
AREA DUE TO LOW LEVEL MOISTURE COMBINED WITH LOCAL EFFECTS AND
DIURNAL HEATING.

SQUALLS AND CONVECTIVE LINES ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE EARLY THIS
EVENING INTO TUESDAY AS TROPICAL WAVE...NOW LOCATED NEAR 58 W...
MOVES ACROSS THE LOCAL AREA...WITH BEST MOISTURE AND H85 THETAE
ADVECTION EXPECTED ON MONDAY NIGHT/TUESDAY MORNING. AS A RESULT...

LOCAL WATERS...USVI AND EASTERN PUERTO RICO TONIGHT AND OVERNIGHT...
SPREADING ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE LOCAL AREA TUESDAY MORNING. AS
TROPICAL WAVE MOVES AWAY TUESDAY NIGHT...A LARGE AREA OF SAHARAN
DUST WILL MOVE OVER THE AREA. AS THIS PATTERN EVOLVES...LOW LEVEL
WINDS WILL VEER TO THE SOUTHEAST.

BY MID WEEK...LOCAL AREA WILL BECOME UNDER MID LEVEL SUBSIDENCE
OF UPPER LEVEL TROUGH ACROSS THE CENTRAL ATLANTIC INTO THE EASTERN
CARIBBEAN AND BUILDING UPPER LEVEL RIDGE FROM THE WEST. THEREFORE
HAZY...WARM TO HOT AND SPOTTY CONVECTION WITH VIGOROUS THUNDERSTORMS
CAN BE EXPECTED WEDNESDAY THROUGH THE UPCOMING WEEKEND.

WELL AS IN THE VICINITY OF TJMZ...TJPS...AND TJSJ. APPROACHING
TROPICAL WAVE MAY BRING ADDITIONAL SHRA/TSRA ACTIVITY INTO THE

FLOW WILL TURN NORTHEASTERLY AND STRENGTHEN AS A STRONG HIGH
BUILDS JUST NORTH OF CUBA AND A WEAK TROUGH EXTENDS SOUTHWEST
OVER THE WINDWARD ISLANDS...CREATING A PATTERN THAT WILL LAST
THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

AT MID LEVELS...HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS OVER OR NEAR THE LOCAL AREA
THROUGH MID WEEK. A WEAK TROUGH WILL EXTEND SOUTHWEST OVER THE
EASTERN CARIBBEAN PUSHING THE HIGH TO THE WEST NORTHWEST BY THE
FOLLOWING WEEKEND.

AT LOWER LEVELS...DRIER AIR HAS EDGED IN OVER THE AREA...BUT
MOISTURE RETURNS AS A TROPICAL WAVE MOVES FROM ITS CURRENT
NEGATIVELY TILTED POSITION AT 52 WEST TO THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN BY
TUESDAY. PATCHY MOISTURE THEN CONTINUES THROUGH THE WEEKEND...IN
SPITE OF THE INTRUSION OF A DUST LADEN LAYER OF SAHARAN AIR ABOVE

THE TIME GREW CLOSER TO MID-AFTERNOON. TOPS REACHED OR EXCEED 52
THOUSAND FEET IN PLACES AND AN URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD
ADVISORY WAS ISSUED FOR MOST OF THE MUNICIPALITIES IN THE
CULEBRINAS RIVER BASIN. A REPORT OF WIND DAMAGE WAS RECEIVED FROM

A TROPICAL WAVE.

THIS TROPICAL WAVE...WHICH IS CURRENTLY AT 52 DEGREES WEST AT THIS

ACTIVITY WILL DIMINISH THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. ANOTHER
FRAGMENTED AND SHEARED TROPICAL WAVE APPEARS TO BE COMING THROUGH
ON SUNDAY THOUGH SOME MOISTURE MAY COME AS A PRECURSOR SATURDAY. THERE
WILL BE WEAK TROUGHING AT UPPER LEVELS FROM THE NORTHEAST AT THAT
TIME.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

ABUNDANT DEEP LAYER MOISTURE IS THROUGHOUT THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN
EVIDENT IN TOTAL PRECIPITABLE WATER IMAGERY. THIS MOISTURE
COMBINED WITH UPPER LEVEL DIFFLUENCE IS ENHANCING NUMEROUS
SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS N OF 19N W OF 79W...OVER CUBA
AS WELL AS LA HISPANIOLA. A MIDDLE TO UPPER LEVEL SHORT-WAVE
TROUGH IS OVER THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN ENHANCING SCATTERED SHOWERS
OVER PUERTO RICO AND THE LESSER ANTILLES. ISOLATED SHOWERS ARE
POSSIBLE OVER THE SOUTHERN CARIBBEAN S OF 12N MOSTLY ASSOCIATED
WITH THE CONVECTION OF THE MONSOON TROUGH AXIS. THE REMAINDER OF
THE BASIN IS MOSTLY UNDER FAIR WEATHER CONDITIONS DUE TO A
TONGUE OF DRY AIR ALOFT THAT IS SUPPRESSING CONVECTION.
OTHERWISE...TRADEWIND FLOW OF 15-20 KT IS PRESENT THROUGHOUT
MUCH OF THE BASIN. LITTLE CHANGE IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT 24
HOURS WITH SIGNIFICANT MOISTURE EXPECTED TO REMAIN OVER THE
WESTERN CARIBBEAN. BY 48 HOURS...A TROPICAL WAVE IN THE TROPICAL
ATLC WILL HAVE REACHED THE LESSER ANTILLES BRINGING A MOIST
AIRMASS WITH IT.

HISPANIOLA...

UPPER LEVEL DIFFLUENCE AND ABUNDANT MOISTURE OVER THE WESTERN
CARIBBEAN ARE SUPPORTING NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER
LA HISPANIOLA. MOST OF THE CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY IS OVER HAITI AND
W OF 70W OVER THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. AN UPPER LEVEL SHORT-WAVE
TROUGH IS ALSO EAST OF THE ISLAND DRAWING MOIST AIR ALOFT FROM
THE DEEP LAYER MOISTURE OVER THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN AND WEST
ATLC. RAINSHOWERS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE WITHIN THE NEXT 24
HOURS SUPPORTED BY A SIMILAR UPPER LEVEL SYNOPTIC PATTERN AND
SURFACE MOISTURE.

Good morning. A variable weekend is expected in PR with a mix of sun and some scattered showers. For Monday thru Tuesday,a Tropical Wave will bring more showers.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
549 AM AST SAT JUN 1 2013

.SYNOPSIS...UPPER LOW OVER THE WESTERN ATLANTIC WILL CONTINUE TO
SUPPORT A TROUGH INTO THE CARIBBEAN THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND INTO
THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK WHEN IT IS EXPECTED TO MERGE WITH A
POLAR TROUGH ON TUESDAY. TROPICAL WAVE IS EXPECTED TO REACH THE
LOCAL AREA LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY...BRINGING AN INCREASE IN
AVAILABLE MOISTURE.

&&

.DISCUSSION...MIMC AND SATELLITE DERIVED TPW INDICATE THAT
AVAILABLE MOISTURE IS DECREASING FROM THE EAST. GFS FORECAST
SOUNDINGS SUGGEST THAT THE PRECIPITABLE WATER OVER THE AREA WILL
HOVER AROUND 1.8 INCHES WITH OTHER INSTABILITY PARAMETERS
SUGGESTING ENOUGH TO PRODUCE THUNDERSTORMS ALTHOUGH MAYBE WITH NOT
AS MUCH AREAL COVERAGE AS WE HAVE SEEN THE PAST FEW DAYS. THE
CURRENT FORECAST HAS THE HIGHEST CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE NORTHWESTERN QUADRANT OF PUERTO RICO FOR
THIS AFTERNOON...THIS IS DUE TO THE COMBINATION WITH THE AVAILABLE
MOISTURE...DAYTIME HEATING...AND LOCAL EFFECTS. IN ADDITION...THE
FORECAST SOUNDINGS INDICATE A 0-6KM STORM MOTION AND AVERAGE WIND
FROM THE EAST TO EAST SOUTHEAST...WHICH SHOULD STEER THE
THUNDERSTORMS TOWARDS THE WAST NORTHWEST ONCE THEY DEVELOP.

FOR SUNDAY...SIMILAR CONDITIONS AS TODAY ARE EXPECTED...WITH THE
NORTHWEST QUADRANT OF PUERTO RICO HAVING A GOOD CHANCE OF SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS. AS THE TROPICAL WAVE APPROACHES LATE MONDAY
INTO TUESDAY...THE EFFECT IT HAS ON THE LOCAL ISLANDS MAY BE
ALTERED BY THE TIMING OF THE WAVE AND ALSO THE SAHARAN DUST THAT
IS APPROACHING. NAAPS FORECAST LOOP SUGGESTS THAT THERE IS A
DECENT CONCENTRATION OF SAHARAN DUST MOVING INTO THE LOCAL AREA ON
TUESDAY...WHILE THE GFS IS SUGGESTING THAT THE TROPICAL WAVE WILL
APPROACH THE LOCAL AREA MAYBE A BIT BEFORE THE SAHARAN DUST.
THERE IS STILL UNCERTAINTY ON THE CONCENTRATION OF THE SAHARAN
DUST AS WELL AS THE TIMING OF IT APPROACHING THE LOCAL AREA.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR CONDITIONS EXPECTED TO PREVAIL AT ALL TAF SITES THROUGH
THE FORECAST PERIOD. SHRA AND ISOLD TSRA ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS
PORTIONS OF THE CORDILLERA CENTRAL AND NW PR AFTER 01/16Z...WITH BRIEF
MVFR CONDITIONS AND MOUNTAIN OBSCURATIONS POSSIBLE IN AND AROUND TJMZ
AND TJBQ. WINDS WILL CONTINUE MAINLY FROM THE EAST TO EAST SOUTHEAST AT
10 TO 15 KTS.

.MARINE...SMALL CRAFT SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION DUE TO SEAS 4-6 FT
AND WINDS TO NEAR 20 KT. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE

CARIBBEAN SEA...
ABUNDANT DEEP LAYER MOISTURE IS THROUGHOUT THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN
EVIDENT IN TOTAL PRECIPITABLE WATER IMAGERY. THIS IS DUE TO
DIFFLUENCE ALOFT AROUND AN UPPER LEVEL HIGH CENTER NEAR 18N81W.
A LARGE BURST OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS IS
FROM 15N-21N BETWEEN 78W-84W. SCATTERED SHOWERS/ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO IN THE SW CARIBBEAN FROM 9N-13N BETWEEN
75W-80W ASSOCIATED WITH THE MONSOON TROUGH THAT EXTENDS THROUGH
NORTHERN CENTRAL AMERICA AND ALONG 11N/12N. THE CENTRAL AND
EASTERN CARIBBEAN ARE MOSTLY DRY AT THIS TIME WITH ONLY A FEW
ISOLATED SHOWERS EMBEDDED WITHIN TRADEWIND FLOW OF 15-20 KT.
STATIONS IN THE LESSER ANTILLES ARE ALSO REPORTING DUST. A
SHORTWAVE UPPER TROUGH NORTH OF THE MONA PASSAGE IS STILL
PROVIDING AN UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT OVER EASTERN HISPANIOLA AND
PUERTO RICO. SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO REPORTED ALMOST 2 INCHES OF
RAIN OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS AS OF 1200 UTC THIS MORNING. RADAR
IMAGERY INDICATES ISOLATED SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS ARE CURRENTLY
ACROSS THE ISLAND AND TO THE SOUTH
. MORE ACTIVITY WILL LIKELY
BUILD UP OVER THE AFTERNOON HOURS AS DAYTIME HEATING REACHES A
MAXIMUM. LITTLE CHANGE IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS WITH
SIGNIFICANT MOISTURE EXPECTED TO REMAIN OVER THE WESTERN
CARIBBEAN.

HISPANIOLA...
A SHORTWAVE UPPER TROUGH IS MAINLY NORTH OF THE ISLAND ALONG
70W...WHICH CONTINUES TO PROVIDE AN UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT MAINLY
OVER THE FAR EASTERN PORTION OF HISPANIOLA. A COUPLE ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS HAVE ALREADY POPPED UP NEAR THE CENTER OF THE
ISLAND AND OVER THE EASTERN PORTION. ACTIVITY IS LIKELY TO
INCREASE THROUGHOUT THE DAY AS DAYTIME HEATING REACHES A
MAXIMUM. THE UPPER TROUGH SHOULD MOVE EAST OF THE ISLAND
SHORTLY. HOWEVER...A LONGWAVE UPPER TROUGH WILL REMAIN OVER THE
WEST ATLC NORTH OF THE AREA.

Tropical Weather Discussion

CARIBBEAN SEA... ABUNDANT DEEP LAYER MOISTURE IS THROUGHOUT THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN EVIDENT IN TOTAL PRECIPITABLE WATER IMAGERY. THIS IS DUE TO BOTH LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE CONVERGENCE AND UPPER LEVEL DIFFLUENT FLOW AROUND THE BASE OF AN UPPER TROUGH OVER CENTRAL CUBA...AND AROUND AN UPPER RIDGE OVER CENTRAL AMERICA. THE COMBINATION IS SUPPORTING A LARGE CLUSTER OF STRONG SHOWERS AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS FROM 11N-15N BETWEEN 76W-80W...AND SCATTERED SHOWERS/ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS FROM 12N-20N BETWEEN 80W-85W. A WEAK 1010 MB SURFACE LOW IS ALSO ANALYZED OFF THE COAST OF NICARAGUA NEAR 12N83W NEAR THE END OF THE MONSOON TROUGH THAT EXTENDS FROM THE EPAC THROUGH COSTA RICA TO THE LOW. ISOLATED SHOWERS ARE MOVING THROUGH PORTIONS OF THE EASTERN AND CENTRAL CARIBBEAN EMBEDDED WITHIN TRADEWIND FLOW OF 20 KT. THE UPPER TROUGH OVER CENTRAL CUBA IS ALSO SUPPORTING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER EASTERN CUBA...JAMAICA...AND HISPANIOLA. LITTLE CHANGE IS EXPECTED WITH DEEP MOISTURE REMAINING OVER MUCH OF THE CENTRAL AND WESTERN CARIBBEAN.

HISPANIOLA... AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH NEAR 78W CONTINUES TO PROVIDE MOIST AND DIFFLUENT FLOW ALOFT OVER HISPANIOLA. CURRENTLY...SCATTERED LOW-LEVEL SHOWERS ARE PRESENT. AS THE DAY CONTINUES...DEEP CONVECTION IS MORE LIKELY TO FORM DUE TO DAYTIME HEATING. THIS PATTERN IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE AS THE UPPER TROUGH DRIFTS EAST AND WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE A FAVORABLE UPPER LEVEL ENVIRONMENT FOR CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY...ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS.

Good morning. More rain is expected today in PR as the trough lingers nearby.May 2013 is now the fourth of most rainfall ever.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
455 AM AST TUE MAY 28 2013

.SYNOPSIS...AN UPPER RIDGE WILL BUILD ACROSS THE CENTRAL CARIBBEAN
THROUGH WEDNESDAY. A WEAK TROUGHINESS NORTHEAST OF PUERTO RICO
WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN AS A WEAK MID-LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS
OVER THE FORECAST AREA. DEEP MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO LINGER
ACROSS THE NORTHEASTERN CARIBBEAN TODAY. AVAILABLE MOISTURE WILL
DECREASE SLIGHTLY WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.

&&

.DISCUSSION...AFTER AN ACTIVE MONDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING...WEATHER
CONDITIONS HAVE IMPROVED SINCE MIDNIGHT. SATELLITE IMAGERY EARLY
THIS MORNING IS SHOWING SEVERAL LAYERS CLOUDS ASSOCIATED WITH CONVECTIVE
DEBRIS FROM YESTERDAY NIGHT CONVECTION. ALTHOUGH THE FORECAST AREA
IS UNDER A VERY MOIST AIR MASS...GPS MET DATA AT BAYAMON AND CHRISTIANSTED
SHOW THAT THE PRECIPITABLE WATER HAS DECREASED SLOWLY IN THE LAST
FEW HOURS. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES WERE FROM 2.23 INCHES AT 00Z
TO AROUND 2 INCHES AT 08Z. AS A RESULT...RADAR IMAGERY EARLY THIS
MORNING ONLY SHOWS WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS ACROSS THE OFF SHORE
ATLANTIC AND CARIBBEAN WATERS...WITH NO RAIN ECHOS OVER LAND.

FOR TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY...AN APPROACHING UPPER LEVEL RIDGE FROM
THE WEST WILL PROVIDE SOME UPPER LEVEL VENTILATION/DIFFLUENCE FOR
FURTHER ENHANCEMENT OF AFTERNOON CONVECTION. THEREFORE THE POTENTIAL
FOR LOCALLY HEAVY SHOWERS AND ISOLATED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL
REMAIN HIGH...ESPECIALLY OVER THE CENTRAL INTERIOR AND WEST SECTIONS
OF PUERTO RICO IN THE AFTERNOON. ALTHOUGH...MODERATE TO LOCALLY
STRONG CONVECTION IS POSSIBLE DUE TO THE HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT AND
THE VENTILATION ALOFT...IT IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE WIDESPREAD...AND
SHOULD BE MORE LOCALIZED IN ISOLATED AREAS ACROSS THE ISLANDS FOR
THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. MODELS CONTINUE TO SUGGEST A WET PATTERN FOR
THE WEEKEND. PARTICULARLY...28/00Z GFS SHOWED LARGE CONVECTIVE
INSTABILITY...MOISTURE AVAILABILITY AND UPPER DIVERGENCE...IN
RESPONSE TO A LONG FETCH SOUTHEASTERLY FLOW AND A MID TO UPPER LOW
NORTHWEST OF THE FORECAST AREA. WE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE
EVOLUTION OF THIS WETTER PATTERN FOR THE WEEKEND.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR CONDITIONS EXPECTED TO PREVAIL AT ALL TAF SITES
THROUGH ABOUT 28/15Z...WITH PASSING SHOWERS POSSIBLE AT TJSJ...
TIST...TISX...TKPK AND TNCM. AFTER 28/16Z...MVFR CONDITIONS WITH
LOCAL MOUNTAIN OBSCURATIONS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE CORDILLERA
CENTRAL...AFFECTING MAINLY TJMZ AND TJBQ. EAST WINDS WILL CONTINUE
AT 15 TO 20 KTS.

&&

.MARINE...OUR CURRENT FORECAST DOES NOT SHOW SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY
CONDITIONS OVER THE LOCAL WATERS THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK.
WINDS WILL BE IN THE 15-20 KT RANGE AND SEAS OF 4 TO 6 FEET ARE
EXPECTED THROUGH AT LEAST FRIDAY.

&&

.CLIMATE...MAY 2013 CURRENTLY RANKS AS THE 4TH WETTEST MAY ON RECORD
AT THE SAN JUAN AREA WITH 12.04" SO FAR. MAY 1936 CONTINUES TO BE
THE WETTEST MAY ON RECORD WITH 16.87".

Tropical Weather Discussion

THE CARIBBEAN SEA...

10-20 KT TRADEWINDS ARE OVER THE CARIBBEAN SEA WITH STRONGEST WINDS ALONG THE COAST OF N COLOMBIA. WIDELY SCATTERED MODERATE CONVECTION IS OVER THE NW CARIBBEAN AND CENTRAL AMERICA W OF 80W. PATCHES OF SCATTERED MODERATE TO ISOLATED STRONG CONVECTION ARE OVER CUBA...JAMAICA...HISPANIOLA...PUERTO RICO...THE LEEWARD ISLANDS...AND THE WINDWARD ISLANDS. SCATTERED MODERATE TO STRONG CONVECTION IS INLAND OVER MOST OF VENEZUELA...AND N COLOMBIA. ONLY A PORTION OF THE CENTRAL CARIBBEAN IS VOID OF CONVECTION. IN THE UPPER LEVELS...AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE IS OVER THE W CARIBBEAN W OF 75W. THE BASE OF AN UPPER LEVER TROUGH IS OVER THE CENTRAL AND E CARIBBEAN. UPPER LEVEL DIFFLUENCE IS NOTED OVER E CUBA...JAMAICA...AND HISPANIOLA ENHANCING CONVECTION. SIGNIFICANT UPPER LEVEL MOISTURE AND SCATTERED TO BROKEN HIGH CLOUDS ARE ALSO OVER MOST OF THE CARIBBEAN. EXPECT OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS FOR CONVECTION AND SHOWERS TO PERSIST OVER MOST OF THE AREA.

HISPANIOLA...

Good morning. This week will be a mostly rainy one for the Eastern Caribbean so stay tuned for any flooding that may occur.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
518 AM AST MON MAY 27 2013

.SYNOPSIS...A WEAK UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE WESTERN/CENTRAL WILL
CONTINUE TO WEAKEN AS MOVES EASTWARD. A WEAK MID LEVEL RIDGE IS
EXPECTED TO BUILD ACROSS THE AREA BETWEEN TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY.
UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN CONTINUES ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA THROUGH
MOST OF THE WEEK...AS DEEP MOISTURE REMAINS HIGH.

&&

.DISCUSSION...WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS A WEAK UPPER LEVEL TROUGH
TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE FORECAST AREA. THIS FEATURE IS ENHANCING
THE SHOWER ACTIVITY IN AND AROUND THE LEEWARD ISLANDS. 00Z TJSJ
SOUNDING AS WELL AS GPS MET DATA SHOW PRECIPITABLE WATERS RANGING
FROM 2.0 TO 2.1 INCHES ACROSS THE LOCAL AREA. IN ADDITION...MIMIC
TOTAL PRECIPITABLE WATER ANALYSIS SHOWED DEEP MOISTURE OVER THE
LOCAL ISLANDS AND ANOTHER AREA OF HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT OVER THE
NORTHERN LEEWARDS. A SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE LOCATED OVER THE CENTRAL
ATLANTIC IS INDUCING A LOW LEVEL EAST-SOUTHEAST WIND FLOW ACROSS
THE ISLANDS. THIS LOW LEVEL EAST TO SOUTHEAST FLOW WILL BRING THE
DEEP MOISTURE OVER ACROSS THE ISLANDS AT TIME OF MAX HEATING...
INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR LOCALLY HEAVY SHOWERS AND ISOLATED
STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE FORECAST AREA TODAY...
ESPECIALLY OVER THE CENTRAL INTERIOR AND WEST SECTIONS OF PUERTO
RICO IN THE AFTERNOON.

CONDITIONS REMAIN RELATIVELY UNSTABLE THROUGH AT LEAST MIDWEEK...AS
PRECIPITABLE VALUES REMAIN ABOVE 2 INCHES. THE COMBINATION OF HIGH
MOISTURE CONTENT AND GOOD VENTILATION ABOVE WILL RESULT IN SEVERAL
ROUND OF SHOWERS ACROSS THE ISLANDS...ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON.
LOCAL HIGH-RES 2KM WRF MODEL SHOWED THE STRONGEST CONVECTION DEVELOPING
ACROSS THE CORDILLERA CENTRAL...NORTH AND WEST SECTIONS OF PUERTO
RICO. SOME OF THE RAINFALL WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES AND COULD LEAD
TO MINOR FLOODING ON ROADWAYS AND IN URBAN AREAS AND SMALL STREAMS.
IN ADDITION...THUNDERSTORMS ARE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING GUSTY WINDS
AND TORRENTIAL RAINFALL. FORECAST CHARTS DO NOT INDICATE MUCH
IMPROVEMENT IN THE WEATHER CONDITIONS THE REST OF THE WEEK...AS
CONVECTIVE INSTABILITY AND MOISTURE REMAIN HIGH.

&&

.AVIATION...MOSTLY VFR CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO PREVAIL ACROSS
MOST OF THE TAF SITES. HOWEVER...PASSING SHRA/VCSH ARE POSSIBLE
ACROSS TJSJ...TIST...TISX...TKPK AND TNCM. AFTER 28/16Z BRIEF MVFR
AND POSSIBLE IFR CONDITIONS WITH LOCAL MOUNTAIN OBSCURATIONS ARE
EXPECTED ACROSS THE CORDILLERA CENTRAL THROUGH AT LEAST 27/21Z...
AFFECTING MAINLY TJMZ AND TJBQ. EAST WINDS WILL CONTINUE AT AROUND
10 TO 15 KTS

&&

.MARINE...EAST SOUTHEAST TRADE WINDS WILL INCREASE TO THE 15-20 KT
RANGE ON TUESDAY. THIS WILL MAINTAIN THE SEAS BETWEEN 4 TO 6 FEET
IN ALL EXPOSED AREAS.

Good morning all!

Tropical Weather Discussion

CARIBBEAN SEA... CLEAR SKIES SPREAD ACROSS A LARGE AREA OF THE CARIBBEAN INCLUDING THE NW AND SE CORNERS. HOWEVER...A COUPLE AREAS OF SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS ARE STILL PRESENT. THE FIRST AREA IS IN THE SW CARIBBEAN WHERE SCATTERED SHOWERS/ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE FROM 9N-17N BETWEEN 80W-87W INCLUDING COSTA RICA...NICARAGUA...AND HONDURAS. IT COINCIDES WITH AN AREA OF MAXIMUM MOISTURE IN TOTAL PRECIPITABLE WATER IMAGERY. THE MONSOON TROUGH IS ALSO PLAYING A ROLE AS IT EXTENDS THROUGH COSTA RICA AND PANAMA TO NORTHERN COLOMBIA. SATELLITE IMAGERY ALSO INDICATES WHAT APPEARS TO BE MID-LEVEL CYCLONIC FLOW OVER HONDURAS NEAR 13N83W. ISOLATED SHOWERS ARE ALSO OVER SOUTHERN HISPANIOLA FROM 17N-18N BETWEEN 69W-73W. THIS IS LIKELY ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WHOSE AXIS IS ALONG 70W. MOIST SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT COVERS THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN EAST OF 70W...BUT ONLY A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS ARE NOTED WITHIN THE TRADEWIND FLOW OF 15-20 KT. LITTLE CHANGE IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE BASIN. MOISTURE IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN OVER THE SW CARIBBEAN AS WELL AS THE FAR EASTERN PORTION LIKELY ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPPER TROUGH CURRENTLY ALONG 70W. AN AREA OF CONVECTION IS JUST EAST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS AND MAY IMPACT THE ISLANDS IF IT DRIFTS WEST.

HISPANIOLA... ISOLATED SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS ARE ONLY OVER THE FAR SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE ISLAND FROM 17N-18N BETWEEN 69W-73W. AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH LIES OVER THE ISLAND ALONG 70W...WHICH MAY BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE LATE ACTIVITY. AN AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IS ALSO JUST NORTH OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. THE UPPER TROUGH SHOULD MOVE EAST OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS...WHICH WILL BRING IN DRIER AIR ALOFT. HOWEVER...MODEL GUIDANCE INDICATES LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES WILL BEGIN MOVING WEST AND MAY REACH HISPANIOLA WITHIN 48 HOURS.
