... High wind watch in effect from late tonight through Thursday morning...
The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a high wind watch... which is in effect from late tonight through Thursday morning.
As deepening low pressure moves into the St Lawrence Valley tonight... southerly winds will increase. The low will pass west of the area early Thursday morning... which is when the strongest winds will occur.
Highest wind speeds are expected throughout coastal sections... as well as higher elevations inland. Also... any thunderstorms that develop could help bring much stronger winds aloft to the surface.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
